Chapter 44

Jian Suiying stared blankly at Li Yu, slowly straightening his posture and unconsciously withdrawing his arms from around her slender waist.

The moment Li Yu saw him, his body froze in an awkward forward stance. He tried to relax his limbs, shifting his gaze from Jian Suiying to Xiao Zhu, then back to Jian Suiying.

His gaze shifted from Jian Suiying to Xiao Zhu, then back to Jian Suiying.

Jian Suiying couldn't help but feel awkward now, and what embarrassed him most was that he didn't know why he felt so uncomfortable.

Logically, he and Li Yu weren't anything to each other now. He could sleep with whoever he wanted, and it wasn't Li Yu's business.

Yet he still didn't want Li Yu to stumble upon this scene. Because regardless of whether Li Yu reacted, it would be humiliating enough.

Xiao Zhu shuddered under that gaze, instinctively shrinking closer to Jian Suiying. He'd never seen such terrifying eyes on anyone before.

Jian Suiying's Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed hard. Patting Xiao Zhu on the back, he whispered, "Take a taxi back yourself." With that, he turned and hurried after Li Yu.

"Li Yu." Jian Suiying called out, circling around to face him. The corridor was lined with private rooms on both sides, and people were moving back and forth.

Jian Suiying, unconcerned about drawn stares, stepped forward to block his path. Li Yu's thin lips formed a faint "Get out of my way."

Jian Suiying paused, taken aback.

It had been ages since Li Yu had spoken so rudely. Jian Suiying felt a surge of irritation at first, then tilted her head, wondering

wondering—could he be jealous?

The thought brought him a quiet thrill. He chuckled, "So you really did have plans today. I thought you were just

messing with me."

Li Yu shifted his body, intending to walk around him.

Jian Suying refused to let her pass, blocking her path firmly and teasing, "Little Li, look at you like this. Are you jealous?"

Li Yu's face stiffened momentarily before he gave a cold laugh. He shoved him hard in the shoulder and strode forward.

Jian Suiying felt a surge of irritation. He grabbed Li Yu's shoulder. "Can you speak properly? If you're really jealous,

just say so. I can explain."

He let out a short cry before Li Yu pinned him against the wall, his arm clamped tightly against his back.

"Fuck..."

Li Yu leaned close to his ear, his voice icy: "Jealous? Jian Suiying, how dare you think so highly of yourself? People like you

messed-up person like you, I only feel disgusted!"

After speaking, Li Yu squeezed Jian Suiying's wrist hard, as if venting his anger.

Jian Suiying felt his wrist nearly snap, the pain turning his face green. It seemed like in the short time they'd been apart, Li Yu's strength had become even more terrifying.

Li Yu released her grip and turned to walk away.

Jian Suiying cursed in anger, lunging forward to deliver a sudden kick to her back.

Even though Li Yu felt the rush of wind behind him, it was too late to turn and block the kick. It connected squarely on his side, sending him crashing to the ground.

Jian Suiying tried to kick again, but Li Yu grabbed his ankle and yanked him down hard. Jian Suiying tumbled head over heels onto the ground.

The two men were suddenly enraged again. Struggling to their feet, they lunged at each other and began wrestling.

But this time, before they could exchange more blows, several people burst into the hallway leading to the lobby. Leading the group was the restaurant

, Li Wenxun. Presumably, a waiter had noticed their altercation and summoned the owner.

"Hey, hey, hey! What's going on here? Suiying! Li Yu!"

Behind Li Wensun were several acquaintances of Sui Ying. They were probably dining together when they heard the commotion

all rushed over for a free show.

!"

As they all chimed in at once, Li Yu's expression darkened further. Jian Suiying shrugged his shoulders. "Alright, Wen, let go of me."

Li Wenxun looked at him. "I can let go, but you owe me a favor. My new shop opens today—don't give me such a grand gift. I can't handle it."

"Fine, let go."

Only then did Li Wenxun release him, smoothing his clothes soothingly as he grinned. "Calm down, calm down. Had one too many? Everyone, let's not get carried away. We can talk this out."

He waved his hand dismissively, then turned to Li Wenxun privately. "Bro, sorry for ruining your day today. I'll buy you drinks another time.

don't hold it against me."

Li Wenxun patted him on the shoulder. "It's fine. You go ahead."

Jian Suiying nodded to them, shot Li Yu a fierce glare, and turned to leave.

He figured once he was gone, that bunch would drag Li Yu into their room for a lecture on respecting elders and caring for the young

lesson on respecting elders and caring for juniors, before getting him drunk and passing out.

Jian Suiying sneered coldly. Fine, he'd consider it revenge—just not to the point of killing him.

He slid into the car, slammed the door shut, and slumped back into the seat, feeling an overwhelming wave of exhaustion.

All his efforts over these past months had been for nothing.

Calling him filthy? Fucking ungrateful bastard. Jian Suiying slammed his fist hard against the steering wheel.

He couldn't fathom why he was such a loser, why he had to fall for Li Yu—that ungrateful, unteachable bastard. Did he owe Li Yu from a past life, forcing him to rush to repay the debt in this one?

The result? He had to pay the debt, but neither he nor Li Yu were happy about it.

Life, it's fucking bullshit.

The next day, while resting at home, he received a call from Li Xuan.

He stared at the caller ID for a long moment, finding it rather amusing. This was the information age, after all.

Sure enough, Li Xuan already knew about last night's incident. He called specifically to apologize for his brother, and Li Yu probably got an earful from him today too.

Getting Li Yu to apologize on her own? He couldn't pull that off even if he jumped up and down. But for Li Xuan, all it took was a phone call.

Jian Suiying couldn't help but think with satisfaction: being an older brother had its perks.

Her mood, which had been gloomy all day, lifted once more.

He waited for the moment when Li Yu would come knocking on his door to apologize.

Unlike every other time before, this time Li Yu was the one who spoke first, and Li Yu was the one who made the first move. Li Yu came to apologize to him.

He deserved it.

But Young Master Jian forgot that back when he was the one who started things and threw the first punch, he never once considered apologizing afterward.
